Portfolio – Examples of Graphic Design Projects
Graphic Design Projects – Bright Print Group
Bright Print Group is a large commercial printing company in New South Wales. They are a family company with a long history of commitment to excellence in the trade. I worked for Bright Print Group for 15 years, and worked on some wonderful design projects. Some of the projects I designed went on to earn printing industry awards. I learned from some of the best in the business. It was a joy to work with challenging print techniques. and embellishments such as embossing, foiling, diecutting and paper engineering. I also learned a lot about copywriting and digital media. I enjoyed my time at BPG!
I produced all the normal corporate collateral such as business cards, letterheads, invoices and comps slips. I also produced most of the Bright Print Group’s corporate identity and promotional material. And therein lies the opportunity for some epic creative latitude! I’m not going to show you ordinary stuff… I want to show you the interesting stuff!
“These Days” 50th Anniversary Calendar
This is a lavish desk calendar! It’s foiled throughout, and features wonderful quirky black and white vintage images. It takes a wry look at the way thing have, and have not changed in 50 years.
I did elegant custom lettering for the cover, inspired by Victorian-era maps. Although vintage lettering is relatively common now, it was quite unusual in 2013… I guess I was a bit ahead of my time.
The whole thing was my production – concept, copywriting, design, embellishments, custom lettering.
This desk calendar was very popular with clients. It soon had to be reprinted because there was so much demand for it!
Creative Mark Booklet
The brief was to create a print marketing piece addressing creative agencies. This little booklet punches above its weight. Some of its features include:
- Mohawk superfine stock
- Inspired copywriting
- Debossed textured covers
- Stitched binding with trailing threads
- Diecutting
- Paper engineering
- Embossed matching envelope
It had to be special to make an impression on this discriminating audience. So it is spiritual, quirky, unusual and surprising. I like to think it’s something people would want to keep.
Pirate’s Treasure
The brief for this elaborate marketing project was “Create something to promote custom packaging, made from interlocking boxes.”
The challenge was to make what was essentially a bunch of empty boxes engaging enough that people would want to open them all. It evolved into a kind of treasure hunt, where the recipient learned various aspects of BPG ethos and service offerings upon opening each box.
The “traveller”, upon reaching the end of the treasure hunt, would receive a visit from a member of the sales team, bearing a pirate’s treasure chest full of loot.
From this promotion, the checkerplate box, the treasure chest and the paper sampler all won printing industry awards!
Shall we see if we can bring a bit of design magic into the equation?
Tactility Booklet
Some concepts you have to work for, some come to you, complete with a life of their own. This was an example of the latter. In our briefing meeting it was mentioned that the main advantage of print over digital media was its tactility. For me, it was lightning-bolt moment. In that instant I knew exactly what I was going to do.
The tactility booklet, with its flashy, tactile checkerplate cover won a gold medal at the NSW print awards and a silver at the nationals .
I did all the concept, copywriting, artwork, dielines.
The embossed foiled checkerplate became something of a signature motif for BPG for quite a while.
Shall we see if we can bring a bit of design magic into the equation?
BPG Fleet Livery
The Bright Print Group fleet of vehicles consisted of tautliners, small trucks and vans. From time to time we would update our branding and it would be time to re-brand the vehicle livery. This was an epic task, because every vehicle required its own artwork!
Testimonial from Deborah Burgess…
Director at Bright Print Group
Cherie was a valued member of the BPG team for 15 years. During that period Cherie was instrumental in driving our branding strategy and in producing the art for most of our corporate marketing publications. She also assisted many clients in the enhancement of their marketing pieces through the delivery of effective design. Cherie is a highly intelligent and articulate woman who is very passionate about design and honesty in communication. If the opportunity presents I look forward to working again with Cherie on our corporate projects.
